One of my favorite techniques when meditating is using my breath as a grounding point when the mind often wonders. Feeling the sensation of air passing my upper lip or the rise and fall of my lower chest brings me back to the present moment.
Using this mindful breathing technique is like a natural mantra. This is universal focus that any of us can use during meditation.
When my mind is flustered or life is busier than usual, I find that I lose myself in thought much more often and much quicker during a meditation. This was a difficulty point in my first few months beginning my meditation journey.
To overcome this mind wondering, I used audible stimuli to remind me to return my focus back to the breath. This was like brain training until I naturally and gently would return to the sensation of breath after realizing my mind hand wonder to the clouds.
I have created 5, 10 and 20 minute returning to breath meditation audio guides. At set increments of this audio, a singing bowl will chime. Use this sound as a reminder to return your focus to your breath.
This chime will happen every minute in the 5 minute session, every minute and half in the 10 minute sessions and every 2 minutes in the 20 minute session.
